We’re almost at the end of 2012 and there’s a lot to look forward to. New movies and books, travels and trips and time spent with loved ones. You might enjoy spending time with loved ones in a game of tennis or baseball, or stay indoors and indulge in some good old-fashioned arcade style fun. If video games make your world go round, there’s great news for you. 2013 promises to be a brilliant year for the crazed gamer as Sony and Microsoft get set to do the big reveal on their latest gaming consoles. Apart from this, here are ten additional reasons why the year ahead will be one big excitement-filled trip.
1. Bioshock Infinite
Brought to you by Take-Two Interactive Software, this game first launched in 2007 and by 2010, had sold an astounding 4 million units. Now, we’re excited that Irrational Games is back to handle design-if you remember these guys were behind the original version. All set to release in February, Bioshock promises to be exciting.
2. Watch Dogs
Ubisoft married action and electronics is such an amazing way that gamers have been in love ever since. We are hoping to see compatibility with all consoles in the coming year and we like the suspense of not knowing what will be new, this time. As long as we’re hacking into electric consoles and seeking and finding information, we’re good to go.
3. Tomb Raider
Ah for a woman like Lara Croft! Classy and cool, this is a game that does not get old. But we hear that Square Enix is taking a huge risk changing the old Ms. Croft we know and adore to a different… more feminine version, if you will. It will be interesting to see what that means but it would be safe to assume that the game will still be beautiful.
4. The Last of Us
If you loved Uncharted, you will love this game. An action adventure ride, it features an unsavory plague-ravaged world with unlikely heroes including a teenager, Ellie and a young man, Joel. There’s limited ammunition so you need to rely on being careful and keeping your wits about you.
5. God of War: Ascension
When you think of PlayStation, you have to think about this game. Critically acclaimed and wildly popular the game is set in ancient Greece and we’re hiring that the new version is not a sequel, but a prequel to help fans understand how it all started. Having sold 21 million copies, this game is a gamers’ delight and there is huge anticipation around its release next year.
6. Gears of War: Judgment
This game has netted over a $ billion for its developer and the company that brings it to us- Microsoft. No mean achievement for a trilogy that runs on a single console. We hope to see a new game in the coming spring and it will be bittersweet- Xbox 360 will feature newer games that might take the sheen away from this old timer. But that remains to be seen.
7. Grand Theft Auto V
Of course, GTA! How could we ever ignore this highly profitable game? We’re hoping to see a new installment some time towards the end of March and we can’t wait for the chases and spectacular graphics that have made this game sell over 15 million copies.
8. Command and Conquer Generals 2
Coming ten years after it was first released; this is a game of strategy and 3D applications, brought to us by BioWare. It can be played at multi-player of single player levels and we hope the 2013 version has more resources to take on the bad guys.
9. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots
Ubisoft is all set to release a new installment of this shooter game next year. We’re going to see big weapon systems, the team of Rainbow working to fight terrorism and the pure firepower that has made this game so popular.
10. Dead Space 3
For all you horror fans who love being scared half to death, this game set in a planet completely frozen over with horrid monsters is a treat. We are hearing that version 3 will beat the previous versions hollow and will feature new controls like drop in/out and dodge. We can look forward to a great, scarily cool game.
As you can see there is so much to look forward to in 2013, so practice and charge your batteries. You’re going to have a great year ahead!
