College can be very expensive. Tuition, room and board, food, and text books can really add up quick. If you’re a gamer, you of course have to add a gaming laptop to that list because college can also be very stressful and what better way to relieve a little stress than a game of World of Warcraft or Star Wars: The Old Republic after a long day at school. If you want a great gaming computer at a great price though, you really have to be patient and do your homework first. I know. More homework, but don’t worry. This is fun homework.
Game time vs. Study time
You first need to make sure of two things. Do you have the money to invest in a gaming laptop, and do you have the time to play with a busy class and work schedule? 97% of college students own a personal computer. It’s one of those tech tools that can make college life a lot easier. When it comes to working, 3 out of every 4 students have a part-time job. Do you have a job? Do you have a full class schedule? As long as you’re completing assignments and get to work on time, then you definitely deserve some gaming time too. If you’re completely broke and/or already behind in your classes, just hold off a little on a gaming laptop. The right time will come.
Computer Specs
If there is a gaming computer in your budget, it should at least have some basic specifications in order to perform well. Opt for a SSD hard drive, and a fast Nvidia or Ati video card would be best. A core i5 or core i7 Intel processor is also the way to go for top gaming performance. If you want to save a little money and be a little more conservative, then choose a small 11.6 screen and give it 16GB 1600MHz Memory. However, if it’s no holds barred, and you want the most intense machine that will be envied, choose a 17.3 screen and 180GB SSD & 750GB HDD DVD-RW/CD-RW Multi-Drive 2x SLI NVIDIA 680M 4GB.
Shop wisely
There are several places to search for a worthy gaming laptop. In order to not empty your bank account in one blow or give your parents a heart attack when they see the credit card bill, you need to shop wisely though. You want a top product at a great price. You can try purchasing a used gaming laptop, but what you won’t get any support or a guarantee either. If there are any problems or you want to upgrade in the future, it’s best to have trusted and knowledgeable assistance to talk to. Computer manufacturers often have specials, especially around holidays. Wait for the right deal to come along. Consider purchasing from a company that specializes in gaming computers. A lot of times these companies will have a more basic gaming laptop that rivals larger PC manufacturers in performance and price.
